Samshield XC/XJ
The XC/XJ is Samshield’s carbon fibre helmet: a lighter, sportier shell than the Shadowmatt and Miss Shield, with the same fixed peak in your choice of the standard peak (XJ) or the wide Miss peak (Miss XJ). It comes in a matt or glossy finish and, in the Darkline, with shell, trim and blazon all matt. Most riders choose it for show jumping, though it isn’t limited to that. The XC/XJ has its own shell and its own liners, which are not interchangeable with Samshield 2.0 liners. Shells come in Medium (53–58cm) and Large (57–61cm), with a free liner to set your exact size; sizes 57 and 58 fit either shell, so if you’re between the two start with the larger liner and we’ll swap it if the helmet feels loose. Samshield XC/XJ: your questions answered
What is the difference between the Samshield XJ and the Shadowmatt?
The shell. The XJ is carbon fibre, lighter and sportier in shape; the Shadowmatt is the classic Samshield shell. Both have a fixed peak, both come in matt or glossy, and the XJ has its own liner system in Medium and Large shells rather than the 2.0’s Small to Extra Large.
What is the Samshield Miss XJ?
The XJ with the wide Miss Shield peak, so you get the carbon fibre shell with the softer, more shaded profile of the Miss Shield. Currently in glossy.
Do Samshield 2.0 liners fit the XJ?
No. The XJ uses its own XC/XJ liners, in sizes 53 to 61. Check which helmet you have before ordering a spare.
What happens if I have a fall in my Samshield?
Any fall where your head touches the ground can damage the inner shell without leaving a mark, so the helmet should not simply go back into use. The good news is that a Samshield doesn’t have to be thrown away. Under Samshield’s ReStart service, a helmet up to five years old (with proof of purchase) goes back to the Samshield Workshop in France for a full inspection; if the outer shell passes, they replace the entire inner shell along with the standard blazon, trim and top (custom decoration is kept), and return it to you as a safe helmet ready to wear again.
