Samshield helmet repair and restyle

Every Samshield helmet is built in two parts: an outer shell that takes the knocks, and a variable-density inner shell that absorbs the energy of an impact. That inner shell does its job once. After a fall it does not return to its original shape, even if the outside looks perfect, which is why Samshield's advice is that a helmet should be checked after any fall.
With most brands that means a new helmet. Samshield is the only helmet maker that will replace the inner shell of your existing helmet, so you keep the outer shell, the top, the front band and the trim you chose, and get back a helmet with its full protection restored. The same workshop can also change the look of a helmet you already own. We are the UK's largest Samshield stockist and we handle both services for our customers.
ReStart: after a fall
ReStart is Samshield's safety check and restoration. Your helmet goes to L'Atelier Samshield in Beauvais, France, where it is examined by Samshield's own craftsmen. The inner shell is replaced as standard, whatever the examination finds, and the standard components (top, front band, crest and edging) are refurbished or replaced if they need it. Customised components are repaired where possible; if one has to be replaced, Samshield quotes for it separately. The process has been validated by the independent CRITT laboratory.
ReStart is available for helmets bought within the last five years, with proof of purchase. Samshield sets the fee; ask us for the current cost including carriage before you send anything.

ReStyle: a new look for your helmet
ReStyle changes the appearance of a helmet you already own: a new top, a different front band, a change of trim or blazon, from the current Samshield catalogue. Because the helmet is opened and rebuilt, every ReStyle includes a ReStart safety check at a reduced rate, so a restyled helmet comes back with a new inner shell as well as a new look.
The ReStyle fee covers the safety check, and the parts you choose are priced on top. Tell us what you have in mind and we will price it for you.
How it works with Espayo
- Email us or use live chat with your helmet model, size, roughly when you bought it and what you need: a check after a fall, a restyle, or both. If you bought the helmet from us we have your proof of purchase; if not, send a copy of your receipt.
- Bring the helmet to us or post it to us. We check it over, complete Samshield's form with you and send it to the workshop in France.
- Samshield examines and rebuilds the helmet and returns it to us. We check it again before it comes back to you.
Allow around four weeks from the helmet leaving us to it being back with you, depending on the workshop's queue and whether parts are in stock. If you compete regularly, it is worth having a second helmet to ride in while yours is away.
Not sure whether your helmet needs it?

Samshield's advice is that a helmet should be checked after any fall, because the inner shell absorbs the impact by compressing and does not return to its original shape. If you are unsure whether your fall counts, send us a photo and tell us what happened and we will advise, no charge. A helmet that has never been in an impact does not need a ReStart, but Samshield's five-year window is a sensible guide to when a helmet has done its working life.
The liner is a separate, replaceable part and is not part of ReStart. If yours is worn or you want a different fit, see our Samshield liners.
Questions we are asked
Can I have a ReStyle without a ReStart? No. Samshield includes the safety check in every ReStyle because the helmet is opened and rebuilt.
Can you change a Miss Shield front band or a Shadowmatt top? Yes, both are ReStyle items. Front bands are model-specific, so the new band has to be from the same model's range.
Can you restyle a helmet I did not buy from Espayo? Yes. You will need your proof of purchase for the ReStart element.
Do I have to send it to France myself? No. We handle the paperwork and the sending, and the helmet comes back to us for a final check before it is returned to you.
