KEP Riding Hat Size Guide: Find Your Perfect Fit
KEP Riding Hat Size Guide
Learn how to measure your head, select the correct KEP helmet shell and liner size, and check that your riding hat fits securely and comfortably.
Finding the Right KEP Helmet Size
KEP Italia riding helmets use a removable internal liner to create a secure and comfortable fit. Your head circumference determines your liner size, while the corresponding outer shell is selected according to that liner measurement.
Espayo Equestrian stocks a wide selection of KEP riding helmets, including Cromo 2.0, Smart Nova, polo visor, standard visor, XC, jockey, endurance, horseball and driving styles. All KEP helmet styles follow the same shell-and-liner sizing system, so your size will remain consistent across the range.
How to Measure Your Head for a KEP Riding Hat
Use a flexible measuring tape and take your measurement in centimetres. Repeat the measurement two or three times to make sure it is consistent.
Use a flexible tape
Use a soft tailor’s measuring tape. If you do not have one, use a piece of string and measure it against a ruler.
Position the tape
Place the tape horizontally around your head, approximately 1–2cm above your eyebrows and just above your ears.
Find the widest point
Guide the tape around the widest point at the back of your head, keeping it level all the way around.
Record the measurement
The tape should feel firm without digging into your head. Record the result in centimetres and repeat it for accuracy.

KEP Shell and Liner Size Guide
All KEP riding helmets use the same shell-and-liner sizing system, regardless of the helmet model, visor style or riding discipline.
This means the same sizing applies across KEP Cromo 2.0, Smart Nova, standard visor, polo visor, XC, jockey, endurance, horseball and driving helmets.
KEP shell and liner sizes
| Outer shell | Compatible liner sizes | Head measurement |
|---|---|---|
| Medium | 51, 52, 53, 54, 55, 56, 57 and 58 | Approximately 51cm to 58cm |
| Large | 59, 60, 61 and 62 | Approximately 59cm to 62cm |
Your measured head circumference provides the starting point for choosing your KEP liner size. For example, a measurement of approximately 56cm will usually correspond with a size 56 liner.
Choosing Between KEP Standard and Tight (Narrow) Liners
Choosing the correct circumference is only one part of finding the right KEP riding hat fit. Your individual head shape also affects how evenly and securely the helmet sits.
KEP standard liner
The standard KEP liner is the usual starting option and is designed to suit a typical oval head shape.
KEP Tight (Narrow) liner
The KEP Tight liner is designed for riders with a narrower head shape. It may create a more secure fit if you experience excess space or movement at the sides of the helmet when wearing the standard liner.
How Should a KEP Riding Hat Fit?
A correctly fitted KEP riding helmet should feel secure and evenly snug without creating painful or concentrated pressure.
Signs of a correct fit
- The helmet sits level from front to back.
- The front edge sits approximately 1–2cm above the eyebrows.
- The liner feels evenly secure around the whole head.
- The helmet gently moves the skin on your forehead.
- It remains stable when you lower or gently shake your head.
- The chin strap sits securely without feeling restrictive.
Signs the fit needs adjusting
- The helmet rotates independently of your head.
- It slips forwards towards your eyebrows.
- There are noticeable gaps around the sides or back.
- The helmet sits unusually high on your head.
- You experience sharp pressure, discomfort or a headache.
- You need to overtighten the chin strap to keep it stable.
Checking the chin strap
Once the helmet fit feels correct, fasten the chin strap. It should sit closely beneath your chin without restricting your breathing or swallowing.
The chin strap should help stabilise the helmet, but it should not be used to compensate for a riding hat that is otherwise too loose.
What If I Am Between Two KEP Liner Sizes?
If you fall between two sizes, we generally recommend choosing the larger liner size as your starting point. If the helmet feels too loose once tried on, we can exchange the liner for a smaller size.
When trying your helmet, wear it indoors for approximately 10 to 15 minutes while keeping all labels and protective packaging intact. This gives you time to identify unwanted movement or uncomfortable pressure points.
We also offer follow-up fitting support to help you achieve the best possible fit. Appointments can be arranged in person at our office, virtually, or at any of the trade events we attend.
When Should I Replace My KEP Liner?
KEP helmet liners are removable and washable, making it easier to maintain a fresh and comfortable fit. However, the internal material can gradually soften or compress through regular use.
Consider replacing your KEP liner when:
- Your riding hat feels noticeably looser than before.
- The liner has lost its original shape or support.
- The material is damaged, torn or heavily worn.
- Your helmet moves despite previously fitting securely.
- Your hairstyle or preferred fit has changed.
- You would like a spare liner to rotate between washes.
Always select a genuine KEP liner in the correct size and shape for your helmet.
