Samshield XJ Darkline Glossy Riding Helmet
Measure around your head 1–2cm above your eyebrows and just above the tops of your ears, over the widest point at the back, with your hair as you wear it to ride. Choose the shell from the table below; the liner sets your exact size within it.
| Shell | Liner sizes | Head circumference |
|---|---|---|
| Medium | 53, 54, 55, 56, 57, 58 | 53–58cm |
| Large | 57, 58, 59, 60, 61 | 57–61cm |
XC and XJ liners are their own range and are not interchangeable with Samshield 2.0 liners. Sizes 57 and 58 fit either shell: start with the larger liner and we will swap it if the helmet feels loose.
The Samshield XJ Darkline Glossy is the all-dark Samshield: matching dark trim and blazon on the shell, with no contrast metal and no decoration. It is the choice for riders who want the Samshield shape and fit with the quietest possible finish.
The XJ is Samshield’s helmet for cross-country and jumping, with the standard peak. It has its own shell and liner system; XJ liners are separate from the 2.0 liners. This is the same helmet, in a matt finish, as the Samshield XJ Darkline Matt version.
Fit and sizing
XJ shells come in Medium and Large, and the liner sets your exact size within the shell. Medium takes liners 53–58 and Large 57–61. Samshield is naturally a slightly oval fit; if your head is rounder, the Round V2 liner adjusts it. Every helmet from Espayo includes a free liner, and if you are unsure which shell or liner you need, email us or use live chat before you order. Full measuring instructions are in our Samshield helmet size guide.
Safety
Samshield helmets are certified to the European EN and American ASTM standards and carry the SEI mark. Details are on Samshield’s safety page.
Delivery and custom builds
We hold one of the UK’s largest live Samshield ranges. In-stock helmets ordered by 1pm are dispatched the same day: choose next-day delivery at checkout, or standard delivery in 2–3 working days. If your size or combination isn’t in stock, Samshield build it to order, currently around five weeks, and you can design your own Samshield and send us the configuration. The SEI-marked ASTM standard is accepted by British Showjumping, British Eventing, British Dressage, The Pony Club, British Riding Clubs and Endurance GB; check your discipline’s current hat rules before you compete.
Care
Wipe the shell with a damp cloth or a non-harmful glass spray and buff with a clean, dry cloth. The liner is removable and washable. Store the helmet in its bag when not in use.
